SALT!

No recipe today, folks.

I decided that the last day of each month, I’ll do a little “good to know” thought…a spice, herb, tool, tip….just something that is good to put into the memory bank.

I’ve been playing around with different salts now for about 6 months. I started cooking with the Morton salt like most of us grew up on. Then my Mom recommended Himalayan sea salt a few years ago…it is the rage now and is supposedly quite healthy for you (as far as salt goes). A friend brought me some fleur de sel from her trip to France. Nice! Then I picked up some grey salt (sel gris) and found we loved it. My son and his girlfriend brought me three salts from Hawaii…a black, a clay and a sea salt that taste quite different and are all delicious. My latest salt, which I picked up in Napa a few weeks ago, is black truffle salt. It is a bit on the pricey side, but worth every penny. If you see it, pick up a little bit…Oh my……….
